Greater Des Moines Partnership Wall Mural, 2023

Nearly 10 years ago, Tiffany Taucheck (then working for the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitor’s Bureau) came to me with an idea. I was still working my full time job as a fundraiser, day dreaming about pursuing my full time dream of being an artist. She wanted some illustrated postcards for the CVB— and I recommended another artist. She stared at me in confusion and said “Laura, I want to hire you to do it.”

That was the project that pushed me to quit my job and go all in. *

Last month I got to work with Tiffany again, now the President and CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Together with her amazing team, we took the core values of the Partnership and turned them into illustrations. A visual reminder of what the Partnership stands for and stands by. This project is a vinyl, installed by Lashier Graphics, that was put up as four panels, kind of like wallpaper. (Want to see the blow torch? Check out this reel.)

*Sure. In retrospect I should have had a more solid plan, a safety net of savings, lined up a business class, etc. But here we are. I’ve learned a lot. And still have so much to learn.
